DISPLAYS CANCELLED DUE TO FLOODS
21/06/07
After parts of Shropshire and the West Midlands were hit by torrential rain this week HFM had 5 displays cancelled due to flooding. Friday the 15th 9pm we receive our first call from organisers of The Lister Tyndale Steam Rally at Berkeley Castle informing us the event is now cancelled due to flooding, they told us some of the traction engines had sunk under there own weight up to the firebox “sounds painful”. The next morning 2 other displays were called off.
The next week wedding displays & private party display were cancelled for the same reason, one location; The Mill at Alverley (a very nice & exclusive location) called to inform us all displays were cancelled due to a 3foot wave of mud running from one end of the hotel to the other.
We wish those affected a speedy recovery

ANOTHER DISPOSAL DAY
07/05/07
After Staffordshire Trading Standards carry another dawn raid on yet another unscrupulous white van man HFM take control of another large quantity of illegally stored Men Shun fireworks.
DISPOSAL DAY
21/03/07
After a call from the West Midlands CID we are called in to transport, store and dispose of 4 Ton of illegally imported and stored fireworks. This is the 6th this year, the fireworks were undoubtedly imported by a firework company in Stafford as the address on the boxes was less than 2 doors away from the office, we had a good old laugh listening to them back peddle while being questioned by the police
CAGE RAGE
08/12/06
The Cage Rage championships are back at Earls Court and set to be even bigger than before. With tickets for Cage Rage flying out of the box office, Londoners are obviously keen to see this no holds barred fighting event and with HFM on hand to give it that little extra is should be a “bloody” good night

NOVEMBER 5TH
Another bonfire night comes and goes with dozens of displays fired without incident, I know its bad luck to say it, but the weather held and not one drop of rain landed. One hell of a last night was held at our HQ for our annual curry and beer night, the die hard’s stopping up till 9am when Tina arrived to kick us out of the place, we still unload the vans from the night before and then went to bed for the day.
BATTLE PYROTECHNICS
01/07/06
HFM were contracted by the MOD to fire a range of battle pyrotechnics on an officers training exercise weekend for The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry “RMLY”. To date, HFM Pyrotechnics Ltd are the only civilian company to ever do this. So off we trotted at double speed to our Staffordshire moorland location for a weekend of maneuvers, this was the hottest day of the year and boy were we in deep. Several scenarios we set up throughout the first day and night, approximately 80 individual pyros were laid for the first battle, on command we opened fire laying down a barrage of mortar and heavy artillery fire followed by screen smoke. This done we retreated to out safe position (this means we are not fired upon and are out of sight of the OP). after this initial barrage we have several hours wait until we fired several salvoes of illuminating flares followed by 2inch mortar fire between 2 and 5pm, fantastic to be able to make so much noise in the middle of the night. The weekend exercise culminated in the position we were in, being attacked by a 200 strong force in front of the Brigadier who had flown in to watch the proceedings.
a long barrage of mixed HE and smoke
was called for and long lengths of screening smoke, mortar fire, light to heavy artillery were laid at first light, this proved to be no insignificant task due to the terrain, relentless heat and the most savage of horse fly’s. This done were presented to he Brigadier who took quite an interest in the work we were doing while recalling his exploits with Mk8 Thunderflashes and young recruits. H hour commenced at 1300hr, pryo finished at 1330hr but the battle continued for another 45mins
with ENDEX called
at 1415hr. While hiding in a trench, three soldiers turned up, tried to kick us out of the hole (and failed) but proceeded to set up a general purpose machine gun to the side, after rattling away for several minutes they buggerd off thankfully but left us with ringing ears and ankle deep in brass and clips.

L60 TANK ENGINES
13/03/06
After many years of searching we found five Leyland L60 (756) horse power Chieftain Tank engines, they were sat in a military arms dump for many years crated and ready for war; we snapped up all five and mounted two of them on trailers with external oil/fuel tanks. These two we have taken to shows over the summer with them being well received by all who see and hear them. We will be adding more information about these soon
CHINESE NEW YEAR
29/01/06
Chinatown, Leicester Square & London’s celebration for: Chinese New Year of the Dog begins with a parade, starting at 11am, along Charing Cross Road to Trafalgar Square
Its ironic that the country that invented gunpowder and the firecracker has to call in a display company to set of a few crackers, still, the whole day was quite magical and the food exquisite.

HSE ANNOUNCEMENT
23/11/05
HSE announce that the 1st of January will be the new date for UN default classifications on fireworks. This is grim news for most of the larger rockets soldin the UK, on top of this quite a few candles, cakes and mines will need reworking to comply.

06/11/05
Hednesford Raceway
Public event, head for Cannock and you will see signs for this place, its one of our largest shows of the busy period and crowds are expected to be in the 20,000 region but as this venue lends itself to big displays everyone gets a spectacular view. 9L V8 Formula 1 stock cars, mad banger racers crashing attempting to knock lumps out of each other and one of the UK most spectacular fireworks displays.
What more could you ask for on a cold November night?

HMS VICTORY
21/10/05
HFM's celebration of Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. HFM was chosen by the Ministry of Defence to fire a full 52-gun salute from the flagship HMS Victory docked in Portsmouth for the official 400th Anniversary Celebrations in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.

Two weeks prior to the big day we were asked to rig an 8 gun test fire with varying amounts of explosives and effect so the Naval top brass and royal security could judge for themselves as to the authenticity of the effect and decide how loud it should be for the Queen. As the ship is a museum we were not allowed to carry out this test until the dockyard was shut, so at 7pm on a Friday night we started to fire our 8 gun salute, as the booms grew in intensity I noticed things falling from the rigging, on closer inspection we found large lumps of rotten wood had fell off the upper part of the mast and several of the windows covering the gun ports had broken. We were exonerated later by the base commander and we settled on a 15oz BP charge per cannon as they thought the queen might not enjoy seeing the pride of the fleet destroyed before her eyes live on tv.
WE HAVE A NEW TOY
12/08/05
Part of our explosives store involve us driving on some very rough terrain, in one month we had 2 new sumps fitted to one of our new vans. This prompted us to invest in a new vehicle and trailer, its is a re-built 1992 range rover that has been cut down (bob tailed) & fitted with a 5l TVR engine plus all the off-road mod cons one can buy, it has no problem getting to our store or anywhere else we want to take it.
